Nio has narrowed down its candidate cities to host Nio Day 2024 from eight to three cities: Guangzhou, Hangzhou, and Xiamen, one of which will host the event.
Nio (NYSE: NIO) has narrowed its list of cities to host Nio Day 2024 from eight to three as planned, with the three cities set to compete to host the electric vehicle company’s next annual event.
After reviewing the candidate cities included in the initial shortlist, the Nio Day Preparatory Committee has nominated three cities as candidates to host Nio Day 2024, according to an article published today on the Nio App website.
The three cities are:
Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Xiamen
Guangzhou is the capital of southern China’s Guangdong Province and home to Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV), Nio’s local counterpart.
Guangzhou was one of three candidates to host the 2023 New Year’s Day event, but lost out in the final vote to Xi’an in northwest China’s Shaanxi Province.
Hangzhou is the capital of Zhejiang Province in eastern China and is home to Geely’s headquarters.
Xiamen is one of the major cities in Fujian in southeast China.
The three cities are among the most economically developed cities in China and among the cities with the largest number of NIO battery swap stations, with 65, 76 and 14 stations respectively.
As of today, Nio has 2,442 battery swapping stations in China, as well as 2,291 Supercharging stations and 1,616 destination charging stations, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
Nio hosted its first Nio Day in 2017 and has left the choice of which city Nio Day will be held in up to users in the community from 2020 onwards.
NEO requires that cities nominated to host a NEO Day event have not hosted such an event in the past eight years. Since 2017, Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Suzhou, Hefei, and Xi’an have hosted NEO Day events.
The company began the process of selecting cities to host New Day 2024 on June 14, and on June 24 it shortlisted eight candidate cities.
From July 12 to 19, Nio will showcase the three cities on its channels including the Nio app and Nio Radio.
From July 19 to 21, users can vote for the host city they support in the Nio app. After voting ends, the host city for Nio Day 2024 will be determined.
