See what the upcoming Tesla Semi factory looks like today and what it will look like

A Tesla executive has posted a photo of the Semi factory under construction at the company’s Nevada facility, along with a sketch of what the factory is expected to look like once completed.

On Saturday, Semi program chief Dan Priestley posted a new sketch on X of the final look of the upcoming Semi factory at Gigafactory Nevada, along with a photo of the site today as early construction continues. Notably, the sketch includes the word “Semi” on top of the building, as well as a slew of Semi docks lining the outside of the facility.

Tesla began preparing to begin construction on its Semi expansion earlier this month, with massive shipments of steel and other materials seen being brought to the site weeks ago. The company initially broke ground on the expansion project in January, along with plans to expand the 4,680-cell battery plant at the site.

The expansion project was announced last year and is expected to eventually add 6,500 full-time employees to the site between the Semi and 4680 battery cell facilities. The expansion is estimated to cost about $3.6 billion and will eventually add about four million square feet of manufacturing space.

Tesla is targeting to begin production of the Giga Nevada semi truck in late 2025, with some of the first third-party customers getting deliveries by early 2026. In recent months, Tesla has expanded its customer base for pre-Giga Nevada Semi units beyond the initial deliveries to PepsiCo, which were first reported in December 2022. The company has since announced additional units going to PepsiCo, as well as similar partnerships and orders from Costco, Martin Brewer and Walmart.

An audio recording of some of the remarks made during Elon Musk’s visit to the Gigafactory in Berlin in March reveals that the CEO speculates that it might make sense for the German plant to one day produce the Semi truck.
