Tesla Will Add SiriusXM Streaming Service In Next Software Update

Tesla is preparing to add a dedicated streaming app for SiriusXM in a future software update, according to a post from the satellite radio company that was removed shortly after it was published.

As Not a Tesla App spotted over the weekend, SiriusXM confirmed on its Canadian website that its streaming app would be coming to Tesla vehicles soon, though the post was quickly deleted after the news broke. The blog post also detailed the process for getting a free trial of the app, even without satellite radio hardware in most Teslas.

In addition to SiriusXM’s satellite radio, the company operates a non-satellite streaming service that currently doesn’t have an app in Tesla vehicles. While Model S and X units include satellite radio receivers and can use the company’s satellite radio, the advent of an app for the company’s streaming channels would give Model 3, Model Y and Cybertruck owners the ability to tune in as well.

Not a Tesla also notes that the aforementioned free trial was for the SiriusXM 360L package, which features several live sports channels, on-demand programming, and streaming channels. Additionally, like other music and streaming apps offered by Tesla, the streaming channel requires a Premium Connectivity subscription.

SiriusXM 360L normally costs $21.99 per month with the All Access package or $16.99 for the smaller Select package. However, the post also notes that a now-removed blog post hinted that Tesla vehicles would likely require the $28.80 per month Platinum package, which includes additional features like the ability to stream from other devices like computers, smartphones, tablets, and more.

However, the SiriusXM app is expected to launch with a one-month free trial that includes everything in the Platinum package.

Tesla began offering free three-month trials of its SiriusXM satellite service for Model S and X vehicles in 2020, offering more than 150 satellite channels. Even at that point, it was hinted that Tesla had been working on adding SiriusXM capabilities for some time, and the rollout indicated that the company would soon expand onboard entertainment options across its lineup.
