Today, NIO opened its 2,500th battery swap station in China. The company has 54 stations in Europe, and 18 stations in Germany and Norway.
NIO (NYSE: NIO) today announced the opening of its 2,500th battery swap station in China, on its official Weibo website.
The battery swap station is located in Tongliao, Inner Mongolia, and is the first in the eastern part of the autonomous region, Niu said.
The electric carmaker said the facility represents NIO’s commitment to its plan to boost energy in the provinces.
Nio unveiled its Power Up Counties plan at its Power Up 2024 event on August 20 to develop battery swapping and charging network coverage in less developed areas.
The company aims to have its charging network cover all provincial-level administrative regions in China by June 30, 2025.
By December 31, 2025, NIO’s battery swap station network will cover more than 2,300 counties in all 27 regional administrative regions, according to the company.
As of today, 838 of Nio’s 2,500 battery swap stations in China are located near highways.
The company has 2,332 Supercharging stations in China, providing 10,628 Superchargers. It also has 1,637 destination charging stations, providing 12,573 charging piles.
Nio’s charging map has access to more than 1,038,725 third-party charging stations in China, and 79.8 percent of Nio users can find a battery swap station within 3 kilometers of their home or office.
The electric carmaker is also looking to boost its infrastructure in Europe, where it has 54 battery swap stations so far, with Germany and Norway each having 18, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
Nio announced at its Nio Day 2023 event late last year that it aims to add 1,000 new battery swap stations in 2024.
However, NIO founder and CEO William Li hinted in July that the goal could be delayed.
The electric carmaker ended 2023 with 2,316 battery swapping stations in China.
Nio announced at its Power Up 2024 event on August 20 that its energy arm Nio Power will build a new manufacturing base for battery swap stations in Wuhan, targeting an annual capacity of more than 1,000 battery swap stations.
The company has two other battery swap station assembly plants in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province and Hefei, Anhui Province.
