MG is cutting prices on its new electric cars, this time cutting the price of the mid-spec MG4 64kWh model with a $4,000 factory bonus – less than two weeks after MG cut prices on the mid-spec ZS EV.
The MG4 Excite 64 and Essence 64 models, which were priced at $44,990 and $46,990 before on-road costs until July, have been reduced to $39,694 and $42,694 respectively in jurisdictions such as the ACT.
Other states also see drive-away prices drop to around $41,000 for the Excite 64 kWh, while the Essense 64 kWh sees an average drive-away price of around $44,000 in many states.
The 64kWh MG4 versions have a medium-sized battery, slightly smaller than the 77kWh Long Range version.
This battery offers a range of up to 450 kilometres on a single charge, which is 99 kilometres more than the base 51 kWh battery found in the Excite 51.
The 64 kWh battery also has faster charging with recharging speeds of up to 138 kW. This means a charging time of just 28 minutes from 10% to 80% when using a 150 kW DC fast charger.
When it comes to power, the MG4 64kWh models are powered by a 150kW rear motor that can help the car sprint from 0 to 100km/h in 7.2 seconds.
The MG4 EV was the brand’s first electric car to use the Modular Scalable Platform (MSP) that underpins the current generation of MG EVs.
The car also features a rear-wheel drive system, which is unusual for a rear-wheel drive electric car and provides a 50:50 weight distribution. In addition, this platform also allows for thinner battery technology.
Last month, MG also set a new benchmark in Australia by offering a 10-year/250,000km warranty across its entire range, including the MG4, an industry-leading warranty.
This comes in exchange for a 7-year warranty that the company previously offered on its vehicles.
The MG4 has been the brand’s best-selling electric car to date, and with 2024 sales exceeding 3,300 units in the first eight months, these latest factory bonuses will help the brand maintain that momentum.
The additional offer from the MG4 manufacturer is expected to continue until September.
