Electrical Testing: Arc Flash Reduction Techniques

Many of the routine electrical system tests and inspections performed may expose workers to electrical hazards. ANSI/NETA MTS, Maintenance Test Specification Standard for Electrical Power Equipment and Systems specifies that individuals performing these tests must be qualified and able to perform the tests in a safe manner and with full knowledge of the risks involved.

One such hazard is arc flash. This quiz will cover some arc flash reduction techniques. The first two questions begin by identifying the arc flash hazard and the other four questions cover some arc flash reduction techniques.

Educational articles on electrical testing are provided by the International Electrical Testing Association (NETA), www.NETAworld.org. NETA was founded in 1972 to establish uniform testing procedures for electrical equipment and systems. Today, the association accredits electrical testing companies; certifies electrical testing technicians; Publishes ANSI/NETA standards for acceptance testing, maintenance testing, operation, and certification of electrical test technicians; It provides training through its annual conferences (PowerTest and EPIC) and its extensive library of educational resources.
