Monthly Coach Spotlight – Judy Hecimovic, Marketing Coach

This month, we sat down with marketing coach Judy Hecimovic to learn what brought her to Nexstar two years ago, learn about her career journey, and discover what she’s passionate about.

Q: What brought you to Nexstar?
A: Nexstar is where I started working in deals! I started here in 2022, and you can thank marketing coach James Brash for that — he posted the job ad for my current job on LinkedIn when they were hiring. Once I learned more about Nexstar, the position, and the company culture through the interview process, I was all set!

Q: Is there a person or thing that inspired your journey into business?
A: I liked the deals for two reasons. Firstly, I worked on commercial accounts at advertising agencies at the beginning of my career, so I had a bit of an understanding of them. I have also worked in food marketing for most of my career with franchisees; Our membership base is very similar to the franchise environment, as both are service-oriented businesses.

Q: What are some career milestones that were important in guiding you to your role as a coach?
A: Actually, all my previous jobs got me to where I am now. I have strategically looked for different areas of marketing in each role I have been in. This has helped make me more experienced in all aspects of marketing. The one accomplishment that really helped push me into marketing was my time at DQ (Dairy Queen) International as a Senior Product/Brand Marketing Manager, which helped me understand the strategic aspect of building plans. It also helped me understand how assessing your situation, doing research on current and past initiatives, and understanding your competitive set can really help you build your plan.

Q: What does a typical day look like as a coach?
A: My days typically consist of reviewing and responding to emails from the night before, coaching calls, and communicating with coaches and other members I haven’t interacted with. Of course, there’s always a lot of reading you can do about trends and other marketing topics.

Q: What is the best part of your job and why?
A: My members and team members are amazing and help me learn every day.

Q: What is one of your greatest superpowers? Tell us a little about that.
A: I would say observation is one of my greatest superpowers. I may not always be the most talkative in the group, or have the most beaming eyes, but I have a good eye for detail, and I’m good at stepping back and analyzing a situation.

Q: What do you like to do to relax when you’re not at work?
A: I usually like to spend time with my family and our puppy, Tilly. This could be taking a road trip, shopping, spending time in the yard, either gardening or doing agility training with Tilly.

Q: What are some of your hobbies?
A: I love walking, tennis, community service, and gardening – we have a huge garden every year! I also love taking road trips, and have a passion for coaching, as I am a lifelong learner.
