This month, we sat with the Leadership and Culture Coach Lisa Kenny to learn more about her, and what brought her to Nexstar, and what she is passionate about.
Q: What brought you to Nexstar?
A: My journey started in Nexstar as a recruitment and retaining coach, as my focus was to help members find great talent and keep them. As the needs of our organs evolved, I managed to take my background in leadership and move to the role of the leadership and culture trainer. Although this is the first league in deals, the chance to be part of this industry was really changing for life. After spending my entire career in corporate environments, I can say with confidence that this is the most satisfied and reward that I have ever done.
Q: Was there someone who inspired you or affected you to join Nexstar?
A: I met Julian Scadin in the gym we belong to, and she shared the Nexstar mission with me years ago. Knowing what he knew about me, Nexstar, our members, and trading – must have knew that it would be a great match, and it was amazing!
Q: How does your usual day look like a coach?
A: Every day is different – it is part of the fun! On some days, it is full of training calls – helping members to develop strong leaders or improve their business culture. In other days, I focus on identifying new services that we can provide to better support our members. Then there are days on the road to work with members to create their mission, vision and values, or support them in developing their current leaders and preparing their leaders in the future. I love diversity!
Q: What is the best part of your work and why?
A: The most rewarding part of my job is that I call the organs on a personal level. It is inspiring to work with senior leaders who are strongly committed to become the best versions of themselves and who really understand the power of strong leadership. I am lucky to be in the role of watching this type of growth and dedication every day. I have the best job in the world, and I am very grateful for the relationships that I have created, whether through membership or within the Nexstar team.

Q: What is one of your greatest powers?
A: I have been told that I have a talent for being direct with reactions with the care and ingenuity approach. My goal is to never harm feelings, but to be honest in a way that supports growth. I think people deserve honesty, and I have worked hard to master the art of making difficult notes in a respectable and effective way. I always strive to make notes to the members that I know will benefit them when they hear them!
Q: What do you do to relax when you are not at work?
A: Enjoy fun time with my family – whether we play games, work on puzzles, walk, or explore the forest together. We are adult Timberwolves fans, so catching a game is always standing up! At home, we enjoy the company of our three dogs, and recently, I found a calm moments of isolation in the new sauna.
Q: What are some of your passion?
A: It may be crazy to say that work is my passion, and although it is not my only passion, it is really one of my feelings! Undoubtedly, I know that the impact of the company’s health culture and strong leaders on people within the company is enormous. Focusing on culture can be a change in the game for the company’s success, and I like to be part of that trip.
