VW Anhui reveals the first images of the ID.UNYX 07

Volkswagen introduced the ID.UNYX sub-brand last year with a vehicle of the same name. However, this model was essentially a rebadged Cobra Tavascan with minor modifications and China-specific software. After a minor facelift in the spring, the model has been renamed the ID.UNYX 06, but it is still based on the MEB platform, albeit with technology adapted to suit China.

Next year’s ID.UNYX 07 will be different, as Volkswagen Anhui has ditched the MEB for new models. The electric sedan was completely newly developed, and is not a modification of an existing model. Visually, the 07 follows the design language of the 06 to create a distinctive brand identity for ID.UNYX. This makes the new model distinctly different from previous MEB EVs available in Europe and China. Although the ID.UNYX 07 resembles a slightly longer VW ID.7 rather than a classic sedan, it retains a distinct presence.

In the current vehicle catalog of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the model occupies only one page, identified as VWA70002BEV1. This indicates that VW Anhui has initially applied for approval for only one powertrain model, with each model typically receiving its own entry and sequential identifier. The only variant currently listed has a 170kW motor.

Battery details vary: CN EV Post refers to the Gotion High-Tech LFP battery, while CarNewsChina refers to the CATL-made LFP battery. The catalog specifies the origin of the battery but not its capacity, so information on battery size and range is not yet available. The empty weight of the car is 2057 kg, and the maximum speed is 160 km/h.

The ID.UNYX 07 is 4.85 meters long, approximately 11 cm shorter than the European ID.7. Width and height are similar at 1.85 meters and 1.56 meters respectively, but the wheelbase is shorter at 2.83 metres.

Volkswagen Anhui was established in 2017 as Volkswagen’s third joint venture in China with JAC, alongside long-term partnerships with SAIC and FAW. The German group has since taken a majority stake in JAC-Volkswagen and renamed it Volkswagen Anhui, after the province in which it is headquartered in Hefei. Volkswagen Anhui plans to launch three new models in 2026.
