The Tata Nexon EV remains one of the best-selling electric vehicles in India and a key model in Tata Motors’ growing EV lineup.
As of October, Tata Motors continues to lead the EV market in India, backed by its strong heritage, extensive dealer network and trust among buyers.
Recently, a Reddit user shared his real-life ownership story after driving his Tata Nexon EV 45 for 5,100 km in just two months.
Its detailed calculation covers running costs, performance, ease of charging and Tata’s service experience, providing valuable insights for anyone considering buying an electric vehicle in India.
Realistic experience, 5,100 kilometers in two months
A Reddit user on r/CarsIndia shared his real-life car ownership experience after completing a mileage of 5,100 km in just two months with a Nexon EV 45.
He discussed the car’s performance, affordability, and some unexpected moments during his trip.
After switching from a diesel Ford Figo, the owner drove his Nexon EV across city roads, highways and ghat sections.
“I spend around Rs 1-1.2 lakh per km on charging; earlier I used to spend Rs 7-8 lakh per month on diesel,” he said.
He reported a range of between 400 and 450 kilometers per charge, which is close to the realistic range of 390 to 400 kilometers when using Eco or City mode.
He loved the instant torque, smooth acceleration and firm suspension setup, which handled rough Indian roads with ease. He also praised the Auto Hold feature that makes city traffic less tiring.
Shipping and infrastructure
The owner said he mostly charges at home but also uses public Tata Power chargers on long trips. Freight networks are improving, and routes like Konkan and Mumbai are becoming easier to manage with planned stops.
However, it was found that the Tata Power app is not very smooth, sometimes needing several attempts to initiate charging sessions.
It enables DC fast charging with a capacity of up to 60 kilowatts, charging the car from 10 to 80 percent in less than an hour.
“High Voltage Danger Alert” incident.
In the first month, he encountered a dangerous high voltage alert message, which frightened him at first. The issue was fixed with a simple reboot, and the issue has not returned.
Other Tata EV owners on Reddit said this was a software glitch, not a major battery bug, but agreed that Tata needs to explain these warnings better to customers. Clear information helps build confidence in electric vehicle ownership.
Honest ownership experience
While he was impressed by the car’s performance, he was not happy with the quality of Tata’s service. He said his pre-delivery experience was bad – the showroom was hot, the air conditioning was off, and he was even served tea with a cockroach in it.
“As long as the car is fine, Tata is good, but once you have a problem, only God will help you,” he said.
This shows that Tata EVs are strong products, but the sales and service experience still needs significant improvement.

Market context
The Nexon EV continues to be the best-selling electric SUV in India, with over 3,000-4,000 units sold per month. It holds about 20 per cent of the personal electric vehicle market in India, proving that electric vehicles are no longer just for luxury car buyers.
Who should buy the Nexon EV 45
Great for city driving and short weekend trips of up to 400km
Ideal if you can charge at home or at work
A good choice if you want SUV comfort with low running costs
Not suitable if you often take long, unplanned trips on highways or lack charging capability nearby
Take me
This 5,100 km real-life story shows why the Tata Nexon EV 45 remains the top choice for electric vehicle buyers in India. It offers what most users want: solid range, a smooth ride, and low operating costs.
The major issues stem mainly from Tata’s service and unclear fault alerts, and not from the car itself.
The Nexon EV costs start from 12.49 lakh (introductory ex-showroom as per the official website), but at around INR 15 lakh on-road, it is still the best value electric SUV for Indian roads.
If Tata improves its service and customer support, the Nexon EV could easily become the perfect all-rounder for mass EV adoption in India.
