Ford Begins Shipping New E-Transit, America’s Best-Selling Electric Van

America’s best-selling electric truck now has more range and faster charging. Ford announced Wednesday that it has begun shipping the new 2024 E-Transit with enhanced range to customers across North America.

Ford changed the game with the introduction of the E-Transit in 2020, the all-electric version of its best-selling van. Since its debut in 2022, the E-Transit has held the title of best-selling electric van ever since.

Despite new competition, such as the introduction of electric trucks from Rivian and General Motors, Ford’s E-Transit electric truck remains the market leader. Ford’s E-Transit remains the best-selling electric truck in America, with more than 6,301 models sold in the first half of 2024, more than double what it sold the year before.

With 3,401 units sold in the second quarter of 2024, Ford’s E-Transit had its best quarterly sales since its debut in 2022.

More importantly, Ford said three out of four E-Transit buyers this year are repeat customers, as businesses look for lower maintenance and fuel costs associated with electric vehicles.

In March, Ford revealed the updated 2024 E-Transit, which includes a larger battery with more range and faster charging.

With 89 kWh (up from 67 kWh) of usable energy, the extended-range battery offers a range of up to 159 miles, 32% more than the current model (108 miles). It can also fast-charge (from 10% to 80%) in 28 minutes.

Thanks to new dual onboard chargers, the 2024 E-Transit can deliver up to 22% faster charging times when using the Ford Pro 80A Series 2 charger and software.

The added range and fast charging enable more uses, such as refrigerated delivery, which could open up a huge new market for Ford.

The Ford electric truck is assembled at the Kansas City, Missouri, assembly plant, while the E-Transit’s extended-range battery is manufactured at the Rawsonville, Michigan, components plant.

Ford opened pre-orders for the 2024 model in April, which starts at $51,095, or $1,100 more than the previous model. However, it qualifies for a $7,500 federal tax credit, which lowers the price to $43,595.
