CABLELABS and Industry leaders to pay an open AFC solution

Cablebs is proud to partner with Broadcom, Cisco, Wireless BroadBand Alliance (WBA) and Wi-Fi Alliance (WFA) to submit an open version of open automatic frequency format (AFC).

This basic system allows unlicensed devices as standard power devices within the recently opened range of 6 GHz. SP devices have a higher power than the internal devices that operate in the same range. While the most unlicensed technology is Wi-Fi, AFC can also support other wireless technologies.

What is the open AFC project?

This partnership, called the Open AFC project, focuses on maintaining an open source version of the AFC. The aim of this is to provide the basis for the new AFC sellers to enter the ecosystem and provide a platform for global organizers to explore the growing stock spectrum in their areas. The Open Open Source Open AFC has originated from the open AFC work under the Telecom Infra project (TIP).

In March 2024, TIP announced the retirement of the Open Automobile Frequency Form Software, which was assigned to develop a platform to enable the standard Wi-Fi in the 6 GHz range. The mission of this industry cooperation group was to develop the AFC platform quickly for the United States, taking into account global adoption.

TIP Open AFC enabled three entities – Broadcom, WBA and WFA – to obtain the approval of the Federal Communications Committee (FCC), which expands the number of AFC solutions available within the ecosystem. With the TIP Open AFC retirement, TIP has delivered the golden version of the Open Open Open Open AFC to the open AFC project.

The goal of the Open APF project is to manage the open source AFC platform, ensuring the continuation of the current and future FBC regulations (FCC). The contributions made by the Asian Union for continuous improvements will support, and since more international regions adopt 6 GHz, AFC can expand to include its regulations and bases – ultimately to support a unified global platform.

With additional ranges around the world to become a common spectrum between licensed, partial and unlicensed publishing operations, AFC technology has the ability to play a major role in coordinating services within those ranges.
