Q: What is the CCT recommended for health care environments specifically?

CCT (associated color temperature) in lighting refers to the appearance of the color of the light source, size in Kelvin (K). It describes whether the light looks warm (yellowish) or cold (bluish). CCT scale as follows:

Warm white (2700K – 3000K) – yellow yellow light -like light light. Neutral white (3500K – 4500K) – a natural, natural white light. Cool White/Daylight (5000K-6500K)-bright light, white blue, similar to daylight.

Regarding healthcare environments, they depend on the specific areas that are considered. General overview of the recommendations is as follows:

For patients ’rooms and recovery areas where a warm and soothing lighting solution will need to be used from 3000K CCT. For operating theaters and examination rooms where the most brighter and cold lighting for high vision is necessary, the recommendation will be CCT from 4000K – 6000K. For nurses and corridors a balanced light that supports vigilance but not very harsh, with a recommended CCT of 4000K. For waiting areas, more warmer tones can be created to provide a welcoming and calm environment with CCT from 3500K – 4000K.

A more important need for the surgical area is that the CRI (color display index) must be 90 or higher. CRI measures the quality of the light source of colors and works on a scale from 0 to 100, with 100 is the best. Among OVIA’s commercial lamps that provide suitable CCT solutions are Inceptor’s rear lighting power and switching LED panels between CCT and LED TIAC Dimmable Recoed with CCT key.
