Weidmüller, a German family -owned company, provides a wide range of products, including mutation protection devices (SPD), Combiner boxes, handicrafts, connections, printing and marking systems, among other things, required between stereotypes and transformers during installation. The company won the SMARTER E Prize for the PV Surge protection device, which was specifically designed for small residential installations.
SPD plays an important role in protecting photovoltaic facilities from excessive voltage, which can be caused by a mesh -related tumor or lightning strikes, even those that occur several kilometers away from the installation site. SPD is usually an integral part of the Combiner box, where all the stereotype chains are connected.
For residential PV compositions, the use of SPD may not be mandatory depending on local regulations. However, if SPD is needed, “it should be near PV boards or at least before entering the building chain cables,” says the director of the Weidmüller project, Jean Marinbach. This can be difficult due to the limited space on the surface installation. With strict regulations in the European Union, especially in Germany, the SPD installation is mandatory for all residential systems.
Weidmüller developed a built -in SPD for residential installations, called PV Inline. According to the company, this is the smallest market design. PV Inline can be installed in a cable channel, between cable channels, installed on the wall, or installed behind the stereotype. The product is available in two variables, 1 and 2 MPP, indicating the maximum power points. Both variables are characterized by protection from the second category, as they provide protection from storms caused by indirect lightning changes and network replacement.
According to the product data, PV Inline is designed to protect the DC side of the solar energy system from large electrical adjectives of 40,000 A, due to sudden events such as lightning or power mutations. It is suitable for solar systems of up to 1100 volts in the capital, and covers most commercial and residential facilities. SPD can handle the short circle stream of 6000 A. The product has been approved according to IEC and EN standards and is suitable for both the Type 1 and the second type.
