ENEL North America and Food and Snacks Giant Mars has signed a huge clean energy deal that will run Mars operations with Texas Solar.
The two companies completed the PPA for full output – all 851 megawatts (MW) – from three farms in Texas Solar. Together, these plants are expected to offer 1.8 hours of terawatt an hour of electricity annually, equivalent to enough electricity to operate 150,000 homes. This makes this PPA the largest ENEL company all over the world.
“The deal shows how renewable energy sources are among the fastest and most affordable solutions to meet the country’s energy needs. Through these agreements, we add a clean capacity to the Texas Network while supporting the leading sustainability of the factory,” said Michel de Moro, CEO of Eneel North America.
For Mars, the step exceeds just the preparation of its own factories. Kevin Rabinovich, Vice President of Sustainability in Mars, explained that this PPA “allows us to apply for all electricity used in our value chain to the clean energy market in a highly efficient way. The more the demand we create together, the more we can grow the future that we all want.”
All three solar farms will be used to graze sheep to manage vegetable cover, a bilateral practice that has blocked ENEL through the largest solar grazing agreement in the United States.
