Volvo EX60 will get chemists for the battery, a new type of cell format

Volvo’s transformation plan includes improving its programs, but also increasing its future electric cars with some of the most battery technologies available outside China.

EX60 Electric SUV will be sold in the United States and global markets next year, and will have battery options with two different chemistry, Anders Bell, chief technology official in Volvo, for Insideevs in an interview at the American brand manufacturing factory in Ridgeville, South Carolina.

Bell did not emphasize the exact battery chemistry on EX60, but he suggested that the Lithium phosphate batteries (LFP) are “at all” on the table for the SPA3 platform from the next generation that EV will install.

The two main batteries in Volvo are Catl in China and LG Energy solution in Korea. Catl manufactures both LFP batteries and traditional nickel-nickens (NMC) batteries, while LGES is primarily manufactured nickel cells.

Volvo EX30 already gets two battery options in Europe, the LFP package for 51 kilowatts and a NMC 69 kW variable per hour. The latter may only be available in the United States, Volvo, a similar strategy with EX60. The largest news, however, is the transformation into the privileged cells.

In reference to the form of the cell, it allowed it to absorb any battery chemistry: “We have unified a form of a large -in -law, which will then allow us to be one of the elderly from the cell,” said Bell, in reference to the shape of the cell, allowing it to absorb any battery chemistry.

Jamorian cells are common in China and are now popular in the West. Volkswagen plans to use the EVS cells at reasonable prices starting next year. General Motors will also use large prose batteries coordination in SUVs and trucks of full size starting in 2028, which includes the rich lithium manganese batteries (LMR). “It is like a VHS cassette, but a little larger,” Bell said.

He added that Al -Jamouri cells allow for cost savings and weight while making the body more solid. Moreover, EX60 will use an approach from the cell to the body, which means that the battery will be a SPA3 platform, not a thunderbolt add-on-and this allows automobile companies to simplify batteries and packages of more energy inside.

EX60 will also have other large promotions, such as the Drive Thor computer from NVIDIA, capable of 1000 trillion operation per second. The auto industry company said during the capital market in Sweden last year, that it will also get the third generation of Volvo driving units efficiently by 93 %.

It will be made at the main Volvo Factory in Gothenburg, Sweden, and goes for sale at some point next year. It will be closed for centuries with Tesla Model Y, BMW IX3 and new electric Mercedes GLC, among other things. In other words, expect to be the most important EV in Volvo so far.
