Volkswagen announced on Wednesday that it will delay the arrival of its ID.7 electric hatchback in the United States and Canada.
VW has not provided a revised timeline for the ID.7’s arrival. The 2025 model year was originally scheduled for later this year.
In a statement about the delay, it cited two reasons behind the change: changing market dynamics, and stronger-than-expected demand for the Tourer model in Europe.
Volkswagen of America said: “After the launch of the ID.7 Tourer, customer demand for these models has become higher than expected, especially in Germany.” The ID.7 hatchback went on sale in Europe last year, while the ID.7 Tourer, a wagon version, is now being delivered there.

The company confirmed to Green Car Reports that this does not impact the timing of the ID.Buzz’s US launch, which is still scheduled to arrive later in 2024. The updated 2024 VW ID.4 electric SUV is also arriving at dealerships, with Some of the lineup gets an improved interface, more power, and range improvements.
Volkswagen earlier this month revealed a US-first feature set for its ID.Buzz electric truck, which is set to arrive in the US in long-wheelbase form roughly two years after arriving in Europe.

In its drive preview of the 2025 VW ID.7, more than a year ago, Green Car Reports found that the ID.7 handles well and offers plenty of space for passengers, in an aerodynamically smart package aimed at maximizing range. But VW decided not to bring the ID.7 to the United States, which has the greatest driving range, largest battery and fastest charging.
In general, Volkswagen has chosen to launch its electric vehicle products in the United States later than in its domestic European market. However, it is adding a line of affordable, US-made electric trucks under its new Scout EV brand. It is scheduled to be first delivered in the United States first, in 2026.
