About 30 ships will be equipped with electric and hybrid engines for the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris. As Powertrain International writes, 20 boats have been converted for the purpose, and another eleven have been newly built. They are all part of a fleet of more than 150 ships designed for commercial voyages in Paris.
According to the report, the local Parisian shipping industry wants to use the opening ceremony to extend the push on the water until after the Olympics. With this in mind, the Port of Haropa, an association of the ports of Le Havre, Rouen and Paris, and the major boat tour company Vedettes de Paris, have signed an agreement. In this agreement, Haropa Port makes the rights to use landing and departure sites subject to a fleet conversion condition, but in return, it also creates a support program to offset investments associated with greening the fleet.
