BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has seen cumulative sales of its Yuan family models surpass 1 million units, the latest in its model series to reach the milestone.
The Chinese New Energy Vehicle (NEV) giant announced the milestone yesterday. Previously, BYD’s Song Family and Qin Family had reached this milestone.
The Yuan family includes the Yuan Up, Yuan Plus and Yuan Pro, all SUVs (sport utility vehicle) and part of BYD’s Dynasty lineup. Another typical collection of the BYD brand is Ocean.
The Yuan Up went on sale on March 26 this year and is currently offered in 3 variants with a starting price of CNY 96,800 (US$13,340), CNY 109,800, and CNY 119,800 respectively.
Originally launched in China in February 2022, the Yuan Plus is the first SUV from BYD’s all-electric platform, e-platform 3.0, and its first model designed for the global market, already available in several overseas markets under the name Atto 3. .
On March 4, BYD launched the Yuan Plus Glory Edition, which is currently offered in four variants with prices starting at CNY 119,800, CNY 126,800, CNY 129,800, CNY 139,800, and CNY 147,800 respectively. .
The Yuan Pro currently on sale is the 2023 model, which was released on May 31 last year, with prices starting at CNY 95,800, CNY 105,800, and CNY 113,800 respectively.
The Yuan family is one of BYD’s best-selling models, selling 428,580 vehicles in 2023, contributing 14.17 percent of BYD’s annual sales, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
From January to May this year, Yuan family models sold 134,392 vehicles, contributing 10.57 percent of BYD’s sales in the same period.
BYD entered the auto industry in 2003 and sold its first new energy vehicle in 2008.
On May 19, 2021, BYD announced that its one millionth NEV, the Han EV, had rolled off the production line, making it the first NEV maker in China to reach this milestone.
BYD stopped producing and selling fully internal combustion engine vehicles in March 2022, and shifted to focusing on the production of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
Last month, BYD sold 331,817 new energy vehicles, approaching its all-time record high of 341,043 last December.
