Guangzhou is one of the most economically developed cities in China and is home to the headquarters of Xpeng and GAC Group.

New Year’s Day 2024 will be held in Guangzhou, south China’s Guangdong Province, according to the vote.

The results of the NEO app showed that voting to choose the event’s host city ended at 9 p.m. Beijing time on July 21, with Guangzhou beating out two other candidates, Hangzhou in Zhejiang province and Xiamen in Fujian province.

Hangzhou was still leading in the vote until an hour before voting closed, but Guangzhou eventually received the most votes.

Guangzhou is one of China’s most economically developed cities and is home to the headquarters of Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) and GAC Group. Nio (NYSE: NIO) is headquartered in Shanghai.

Guangzhou is also one of the cities with the largest number of NIO battery swap stations, with 65 stations as of today, according to the NIO charging map.

NEO Day is the most important annual event for NEO and usually sees the launch of new models and technologies.

Nio held its first Nio Day on December 16, 2017 in Beijing, where it launched its first production model, the ES8.

The latest event, Nio Day 2023, was held in Xi’an, northwestern China’s Shaanxi Province on December 23, 2023, when Nio unveiled its flagship executive sedan, the ET9, with deliveries scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2025.

There is no evidence of what new models or technologies Nio will unveil at Nio Day 2024. There will be no new model releases from the flagship Nio brand this year before Nio Day 2024.

The company launched its sub-brand Onvo (Ledao in China) on May 15 and began pre-sales of the new brand’s first model, the L60. The official launch and delivery of the Onvo L60 is scheduled for September.

The NEO organization began the process of selecting the host city for NEO Day 2024 on June 14, with the requirement that candidate cities have a venue available for 10 consecutive days from December 1, 2024 to January 15, 2025, with a seating capacity of at least 8,000 people.

The electric vehicle maker on June 24 selected Guangzhou, Harbin, Haikou, Hangzhou, Tianjin, Wuhan, Xiamen and Zhengzhou as the eight shortlisted cities.

On July 6, NIO narrowed down the number of candidates to three cities: Guangzhou, Hangzhou, and Xiamen.
