Rox Motor has launched the Rox Adamas as a successor to its debut model, the Rox 01, with the aim of doubling global sales to 30,000 units in 2026. The Rox Adamas is an EREV offering six-seat and seven-seat configurations.

Rox Motor – the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer that is probably better known abroad than domestically – has launched a new model to accelerate its growth.

The company officially introduced the Rox Adamas at today’s event as the successor to its first model, the Rox 01 SUV (sport utility vehicle), with a starting price of CNY 334,900 (US$47,800).

Adamas – Greek for “invincible” – symbolizes Rox Motor’s ambitious vision for this Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV), which was previously introduced to Middle Eastern markets.

Rox Motor, a relatively unknown Chinese electric car brand founded in January 2021, launched the Rox 01 on August 22, 2023.

The Rox 01, an EREV previously priced from CNY 299,900 in China, is intended to compete with Li Auto’s (NASDAQ: LI) Li L8.

Since its establishment, Rox Motor has prioritized overseas markets, unlike other Chinese electric vehicle makers.

Rox Motor said today that the company has expanded its presence in more than 40 countries and territories in less than two years, capturing a 10 percent share of the luxury all-terrain vehicle segment priced above $80,000 in the UAE.

Rox Adamas retains the exterior design of the Rox 01 and offers six-seat (2+2+2) and seven-seat (2+2+3) configurations, with a total weight of 2,715 kg.

The seven-seat model carries an official starting price of CNY 349,900, while the six-seat version is priced at CNY 359,900. After limited-time discounts, these prices drop to CNY 334,900 and CNY 344,900 respectively.

The Rox Adamas is 5,050 mm long, 1,985 mm wide and 1,856 mm high, with a wheelbase of 3,010 mm. Compared to the Rox 01, it features slight adjustments in width and height.

It is equipped with the 1.5T engine as a range extender and features a dual-motor all-wheel drive system that delivers 350kW of power and 740Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds.

The Rox Adamas comes standard with a 44.5 kWh ternary lithium battery pack from CATL (HKG: 3750, SHE: 300750), providing a CLTC range of 215 km.

With a full tank and fully charged battery, the combined CLTC range is up to 1,405 kilometres.

Rox Motor delivered 1,452 vehicles in November, an increase of 1.82 percent from 1,426 units in October, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

The company said today that it expects deliveries for all of 2025 to exceed 15,000 units, with a global sales target of 30,000 units in 2026.

BYD, one of the fastest growing automakers in international markets, appears ready to launch another electric vehicle to join its growing electric fleet, challenging the dominance of legacy automakers.

The latest model is called the BYD Qin Max EV, and it appears to be an affordable electric sedan that was seen in regulatory approval documents managed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), and shared by CNC.

The new Qin EV Max is expected to start at around AU$35,000 in the Chinese market.

The latest model will be slightly longer – 4,866mm – than the electric sedan, which has proven popular in Australia with more than 10,000 units delivered since 2023.

Interestingly, although the latest Qin Max is longer than the Stamp, the weights of the car on the regulatory list are much lower.

Two weights are listed at 1670kg and 1795kg. This is fairly light compared to the Seal, which starts at 1,922kg and tops out at 2,185kg, thanks to the larger battery and dual-motor powertrain.

This may also indicate a smaller battery in the Qin Max EV compared to the stamp.

In terms of the powertrain, it will be powered by 120 kW or 240 kW engines. Fueling these motors are two BYD lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery packs with as-yet-undisclosed capacities.

In terms of design, the mid-sized sedan has a sharp front end with an elegant design throughout the shape of the car. From some angles, a slight roundness can also be seen compared to the stamp.

The door handles look more traditional but are more flush with the door to improve aerodynamics and ergonomics.

The regulatory filing also reveals a sunroof option, which will be welcomed by some buyers and is expected to be an option, while standard vehicles are likely to come without it.

There will also be three wheel types on offer across its variants, although the exact wheel size is not known as part of the documentation.

As of now, this model will likely only be offered in the highly competitive Chinese EV market, but it’s worth keeping an eye on as BYD looks to see sales grow in international markets with more affordable models in the near future.

The all-new Qin Max EV is expected to be launched in the coming months, perhaps in time for the upcoming Beijing Auto Show in April next year.

The starting price for the limited-time Lafa 5 is CNY92,800 (US$13,100), which represents a 12.29 percent drop from the pre-sale price. The company is also developing a higher-spec Ultra version of the Lafa 5, which is scheduled to be launched next year.

Leapmotor (HKG: 9863) today officially launched the Lafa 5 in China, entering the competitively priced electric hatchback market.

The starting price for this limited-time model is CNY 92,800 (US$13,100), which represents a decrease of CNY 13,000, or 12.29 percent, from the pre-sale starting price of CNY 105,800.

Deliveries of the Lafa 5 will begin soon, making it competitive in China against models including the Volkswagen ID.3, SAIC MG4, BYD’s (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) Dolphin, and Nio Inc’s (NYSE: NIO) Firefly EV.

The electric hatchback is often seen as an electric counterpart to the Golf – Volkswagen’s best-selling family sedan – in many cases.

Leapmotor offers five variants of the Lafa 5 – 515 Plus, 515 Pro, 515 Max, 605 Pro and 605 Max – with the numbers denoting the CLTC range.

The official starting prices for these variants are CNY 97,800, CNY 105,800, CNY 115,800, CNY 111,800 and CNY 121,800 respectively.

The company is offering a limited-time cash discount of CNY 5,000 to customers who purchase the Lafa 5 by December 31, effectively lowering the starting prices to CNY 92,800, CNY 100,800, CNY 110,800, CNY 106,800, and CNY 116,800 respectively.

Leapmotor is also allowing customers who purchase the model today to get an additional discount of CNY 2,000, which is the same as the pre-sale offer.

The company is also developing a higher-spec version of the Lafa 5 Ultra, which is scheduled to be launched next year.

The Lafa 5 is a rear-wheel drive compact electric car tuned by the European Stellantis team.

Built on Leapmotor’s LEAP 3.5 B platform, it measures 4,430mm long, 1,880mm wide and 1,520mm high, with a 2,735mm wheelbase.

These dimensions exceed those of the Firefly EV, which are 4,003 mm long, 1,781 mm wide, and 1,557 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,615 mm.

The Lafa 5 uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, which offer 56.2 kWh and 67.1 kWh capacity options providing CLTC ranges of between 515 or 605 kilometres.

It supports fast charging, with charging reaching 80 percent from 30 percent in 18 or 19 minutes.

The base model features an engine with a maximum power of 132 kW and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.7 seconds.

The other four models are equipped with a 160 kW engine, achieving acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 or 6.5 seconds.

The Lafa 5 features the Leapmotor Pilot driver assistance system, with two Max models additionally equipped with LiDAR technology.

The car’s cockpit is powered by either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155P or 8295P, the latter being the current mainstream choice for premium electric cars.

The launch of the Lafa 5 is part of Leapmotor’s efforts to achieve its 2026 annual sales target of 1 million units. The company debuted the A10 compact electric SUV (sport utility vehicle) with a range of 500 kilometers on the opening day of the 2025 Guangzhou Auto Show on November 21.

Leapmotor will enter a new super product cycle in 2026, with 2-3 models planned for its D series alongside its existing B series, Lafa 5 and C offerings, according to previous management statements.

Leapmotor delivered 70,289 vehicles in October, marking the sixth consecutive month of record deliveries.

From January to October, the Stellantis NV (NYSE: STLA)-backed Chinese electric vehicle maker delivered 465,805 vehicles, representing a 120.72 percent increase year-on-year.

This is the second price target hike Tesla has received this week, with Dan Ives also pushing his forecast for the stock higher for the second time since the presidential election in early November.

Ives, the Wedbush analyst, had a price target of $400, but pushed it to $515 on Sunday.

Tesla shares are down nearly 9 percent today, but are still up more than 77 percent on the year. All but 2% of the gains came after the election.

A rare electric sports hatchback will arrive in China later this month. BYD’s new Seal 06 GT electric hatch will be launched on October 18, 2024, as the electric car giant expands into new segments. Here’s what we know so far.

BYD’s electric hot hatch is set to arrive in China

We got our first look at BYD’s electric hot hatch at the Beijing Auto Show in April. Calling the Ocean-M concept, BYD claimed it was the industry’s first rear-wheel-drive electric performance hatchback.

You can clearly see the design influence from other Ocean series models like the Dolphin and Seal but with an almost Volkswagen Golf-like silhouette.

Based on the new e-Platform 3.0 Evo platform, the EV hot hatch features higher performance and faster charging speeds.

The interior is also equipped with BYD’s latest technology and connectivity software. A floating 15.6-inch infotainment screen and a 10.25-inch driver display sit at the center of a minimalist design. BYD’s electric hatchback also comes with a 12-inch head-up display.

BYD opened pre-orders, officially naming it the Seal 06 GT in August. The company said prices will range from $21,300 (150,000 yuan) to more than $28,400 (200,000 yuan).

Although it was expected to be launched in China last month, BYD’s Ocean Series director Zhang Zhuo has confirmed that the electric vehicle will hit the market on October 18.

Taking new sectors

At 4,630 mm long, 1,880 mm wide and 1,490 mm high, with a 2,820 mm wheelbase, BYD’s Seal 06 GT is slightly longer than Volkswagen’s new ID.3 GTX Performance (4,265 mm long / 1,809 mm wide / 1,563 mm high / 2,770 mm (wheelbase mm).

Although hatchbacks are not very popular in China, there are few comparisons. However, the electric car is expected to be launched in Europe.

Volkswagen’s ID.3 GTX Performance starts at $57,200 (€52,295) with up to 321 hp (240 kW) for 0-62 mph in 5.7 seconds. The ID.3 GTX sports a 79 kWh battery, delivering a WLTP range of up to 373 miles (601 km).

The BYD Seal 06 GT is available with three engines. The base model features a 214 hp (160 kW) rear engine. The mid-range model has 221 hp (165 kW), while the dual-motor model delivers 415 hp (310 kW) for 0-62 mph in 4.9 seconds. With the larger 73 kWh battery, the electric hot hatch has a range of up to 375 miles (605 km) in China.

BYD’s new electric hot hatch is the latest as it expands into new markets. Although it is best known for its low-cost electric vehicles such as the Seagull, which starts at less than $10,000 in China, BYD is launching new models across different segments, such as minivans, electric supercars and luxury vehicles.

MG has made waves in the Australian electric car market by cutting the price of its popular MG ZS EV to just $34,990 for MY23 vehicles, making it the most affordable electric car on the market at the moment.
