Tesla CEO Elon Musk shared some initial details behind the horrific Cybertruck explosion in front of the Trump Las Vegas hotel on Wednesday. One person was killed and seven injured in the accident.
Musk’s initial comments:
Amid reports of the Cybertruck exploding, Musk posted on X noting that Tesla’s senior team was immediately investigating the incident. At the time, Musk indicated that he would post an update once Tesla obtained data from the stricken car. “The entire Tesla team is investigating this matter right now. More information will be released as soon as we learn anything. We have never seen anything like this before,” Musk wrote in a post on X.

Tesla preliminary results:
In a later post, Musk stated that Tesla could now confirm that the Cybertruck’s explosion was caused by fireworks and/or a bomb that was stored in the trunk of the all-electric pickup truck. This means that the explosion itself was not caused by anything. A fault with the car or any of its components. The ill-fated Cybertruck was a rental unit. Reports indicated that the car was rented through Turo. Musk also noted that all of the vehicle’s telemetry devices were positive at the time of the explosion. From a rented Cybertruck and nothing to do with the vehicle itself. “All vehicle telemetry was positive at the time of the explosion,” Musk wrote, later adding that Tesla vehicles constantly transmit their health status.
We have now confirmed that the explosion was caused by a very large fireworks and/or bomb carried in the bed of a rented Cybertruck and had nothing to do with the vehicle itself.

Possibly intended:
The CEO also confirmed that law enforcement currently believes the incident was likely intentional. “It seems likely to be an act of terrorism. Both this Cybertruck and the F-150 bomber were rented in New Orleans from Turo. “Maybe it’s related in some way,” Musk wrote in a later post. As noted in an MSNBC segment, three senior US law enforcement officials stated that the Cybertruck explosion was under investigation as a possible act of terrorism, and that the explosion may have been a possible act of terrorism. The accident appeared intentional.
