Working as a woman in a male-dominated profession is always a challenge. Many people assume that you cannot do the job as well as a man can, although this is complete nonsense.
One such story of discrimination was recently told by TikTok user, Lex Abreu. In her video, she talked about another woman firing her because she “didn’t feel comfortable.” Instead, the TikToker’s brother, far beyond her level of professionalism, was hired in the electrical business. homely!

“You guys think it’s so easy to be a female in a male-dominated industry.”
“You think we get all the privileges and things are handed to us and life is easy. And I have a good time for you to tell a little story about that. This just happened to me.
So, I went to a customer’s house planning to change her panel, and replace the standard 200 amp panel as a replacement. Her basement filled with water, it got inside her painting and a lot of things ended up rusting. So, it just needs a simple panel change. So, I was going to go do that. You guys know this is one of my specialties – changing the board, right?
So, I’ll get there.”

“And she looks at me and says, ‘Is someone else coming?’ “”
“And I’m like, ‘No.’ And she says, “Is it just you?” So I said: Yes, I am here to change your plate. Is everything okay? She said, “No offense, but is there anyone else who can do this?” And I was like, “What do you mean?” “I don’t know, the guy who came in to do the estimate, you know, made it clear to me that this was, like, very concerned,” she said. And it was very complicated. And I was like “yeah sure.” Like, it’s complicated. But for someone who does this on a daily basis, this is completely normal. And I’ve done a million like these. And she says, “You’ve done a million?” And I’m like, “Not a million.” But you know, I’ve done my fair share, probably done at least two to three this month alone.
And she was like, “Can I call your office?” I am really sorry. I just don’t feel comfortable. “Sure, no problem,” I said. She called the office and said, “I’ve been waiting for months.” And I, you know, spend a lot of money doing this. And I don’t feel comfortable. Is there someone else who can do this? “My brother is also an electrician, and he also does these installations,” I said. But he is 19 years old. He is a trainee. But he also does it if you want him.” It’s like “great.” When is it available?
No you did not.”

“I get this all the time. Especially from older women.”
“And I understand that at that time it was definitely different, as if women didn’t do that. But it’s 2023. And I’m coming to your house. This means that I am fully capable of doing this.
It’s like, “My whole house runs on this painting.” This is such a big deal. Ma’am, I’m aware, I’m doing this. I literally do this for a living. Are you serious?
So, whatever it is, I was like, ‘I’ll reach out to my brother and see when he can come out and do it.’ I’m sorry.’ Like, she’s like, “No, I’m not, no hard feelings.” I just want to make sure it’s done perfectly fine, and that there are no issues. And I’m saying, if you don’t stop talking fucking, I’ll do anything.
So, the moral of the story is that average doesn’t just apply to every female, because there are females who definitely benefit from being in a male-dominated industry who benefit from being a woman in that industry.

“People who are really interested in being in a male-dominated industry and want to be taken seriously, we work harder than the average guy to show that we are capable.”
“And, you know, don’t get ridiculed for doing exactly what a man does in a male-dominated industry. But we also accept such nonsense. Like, really lady? Our company is fully licensed and insured. Even if you are a stupid girl who doesn’t know what to do and do your own painting, it will be completely secure. If there are any problems, someone will come and fix them. Is that true? Did you really have to say that? truly?”

TikTok isn’t the only place Lexi is active. She also posts on Instagram, Facebook And Youtube. However, her TikTok account has the largest number of followers out of the four.
Talking about her viral video, There is a real reason why the woman in the story was surprised to meet an electrician on her doorstep. Apparently, of all the electricians in the United States, Only 5.8% Among them are women. But that does not excuse the treatment of Ms. Lexi.
There are two main reasons why so few women enter the electrical career. The first is Hostility From the field environment. The field is mainly made for men, so women have to work against them. They may experience discrimination from their employers, clients (just like Lexi) and other people who come into contact with their work.
Another reason is Popular opinion about racesaAlmost every environment in a woman’s life discourages her from pursuing the electrical profession by portraying it as a masculine job. For example, young girls are not introduced to the idea of becoming electricians. When they discover what they want to become, this profession does not occur to them.
So, let’s just say we’re glad Lexi didn’t give up on her dream job despite people criticizing her skills. The electrical field needs more passionate workers like Lexi, regardless of gender!
People in the comments below the video were shocked at the way Lexi was treated. In fact, they were angered by the lady’s behavior! Some of them even mentioned that if they needed an electrician, they would hire Lexi specifically. Others expressed how sorry they were that the girl had to endure this.
‘Oh honey, I’m going to hire you specifically’: People online support TikToker for being subjected to such harsh discrimination
